5/10/19 Introduction to Art

Today's Class- Well that was a tiring day.  Started at 9:30, ended at 3:30, no break.  All students present in both sections had all artworks graded.  I also collected several museum papers, which I will finish grading over the weekend, returned a bunch of stuff I had in my possession, and answered countless questions.

Chicken Story

Despair Runs Dry

As a group we looked at all the 3D Final projects, including those above.

How to make this up- No new art projects started today, though a few people were busy during class time finishing things.

Homework- None, since our class officially ended today.  I will start the grading process tomorrow, and hope to have it all done by the middle of next week.  I will submit it all to Kean as soon as it's all done.

For next class- No more.  Next Friday you can sleep in and leave your art supplies at home.

5/7/19 Introduction to Art

Today's Class- Thanks to Kean University's interesting interpretation of the calendar, today was Friday, so we had a Friday schedule, which meant that our class had a meeting.  Most students showed up.  Those who were present were given back some graded projects, got my input on some things in progress, were given space and time to work on some back portfolio exercises, etc.

Nothing new was started today, since we couldn't be sure who was going to be able to make it to class, and we are just days away from our last day.

How to make this up- As I wrote above, nothing new was started today.  The complete list of portfolio exercises and the blog posts that describe them can be found in last week's blog post.

Homework- Nothing new, but most of you need to finish a few things that are due this coming Friday, our last class meeting.  Past blog posts list all the details as they happened.

For next class 5/10/19- Our last meeting of the semester, and therefore your last chance to turn in anything you need me to see.  If you have any excuse notes to cover absences from this semester, I need them by Friday.

More important, all the artwork.  If I have not yet received them and returned them graded, you need to bring me your final Museum Paper, the 2D Final (comic strip), the 3D Final (randomly chosen topic depicted in three dimensions), and the semester portfolio.  All work is due by the end of the last class meeting next week.  No work will be accepted after that.

Arrive on time.  The sooner we start, the sooner the class will finish, and the sooner you will be done.

5/3/19 Introduction to Art

Today's Class- Getting near the end now, so nothing new was started today, but we looked at some recent student work, and students worked on their 3D final project or on some back exercises from the portfolio.

Students who had not yet received their randomly assigned topics for the 3D project selected them today, some museum papers were evaluated, and the schedule for next week was discussed.  Collagraph plates turned in today will be printed and returned at our next meeting.

How to make this up- Students who still have not received their assigned topic for the 3D project may want to e-mail me and request options, or they can wait and randomly draw them in class next week.

****Semester Portfolio****
Here is the list of all the work that will be expected of each student as part of the semester portfolio.  If you missed no classes, you have it done or at least started. If you're not sure, here's where you can find it on this blog. Anything not on the home page can be found through the archive section.

Feb 1 Contour Line (shoes)
Feb 8 Negative Space (chair, bottles)
Feb 15  Value Drawing (charcoal)
Feb 22  Mosaic Collage (magazine colors)
Mar 1  Color Theory (wheel, mix)
Mar 8  Photography
Mar 22  Rhythm (music)
Mar 28  Collagraph (cardboard prints)
Apr 5  2D Final (comic strip)
Apr 12 Collagraph with collage
Apr 26 Two point perspective (corner)/ 3D Final project

Everything but the 2D and 3D Final projects are part of the portfolio grade and can be made up for full credit any time before the end of the semester.

Homework- Nothing new, but those who have not yet turned in their comic strip or their museum paper rough draft should do so as soon as possible, as these are individually graded projects and longer delays have bigger penalties.

All work for the semester must be turned in by the end of class on May 10, 2019.  No work will be accepted after that.

For next class 5/7/19- Next week is our unusual university designed schedule with two class meetings.  We start with a Tuesday meeting, because Kean will be following a Friday schedule on Tuesday May 7, 2019.  Come to class at the same time as you would on Friday.  The class will also meet at the regular time on Friday May 10, 2019, which will be our last meeting of the semester.  Work can be turned in before then, but must be in by the end of the last class to receive credit.

You may use the time to work on anything related to the class, so bring in any materials that you need to work on your 3D final, or make up a portfolio exercise, or whatever you need to do for the class.  We won't be starting anything new.
